The big complaint about illegal immigration seems to be "they are taking all our jobs", to which the response is, "the ones Americans don't want", mostly manual labor ones like landscaping and even construction. If citizens took these jobs, we would solve both the immigration and obesity problems at once.

fios vs optonline
Just had fios installed to replace optonline, which worked fine, but we can save $40/month. I was telling Alex that I had read that it should be faster internet speeds because it is fiber optic right up to the house, instead of coax for that last 50 feet. Seems to me that usage in the hood would have a bigger effect on our speed with cable, because others are increasing the load before it hits the repeaters and the really fat wires, whereas with fiber optics there is plenty of bandwidth and little signal loss right up to the box on my wall. Does this make sense?

white house steps
So I saw that rodent running across the steps in front of the President the other day. Looked like a rat that had been in a fight to me. I did not see the late-night comics' take on it, but it could also be Dick Cheney trying to get back in the White House.
welcome
I am new to this, as you can tell. To be honest, I had only read a few blogs before I started this one. My plan is to post everything to this until there is enough interest in one subject to start its own blog. Or if I have any specific ideas. Or if I just feel like it.

weapons of mass annoyance, that's how the enemy will win... slow down computers to a crawl, make it really hard to get a reservation (or food at all). Great article in the Atlantic about the danger from China of this.
eyes of the mind
I want to put up a show called :eyes of the mind".
Here is one artist I would like to feature, if I can convince him:

rehabotics
okay, here's the idea:
E-stim every
effected set of muscles. Have voice-controlled interface:
pushOff
reach

probably need for both sides -- maybe could be in each ear?
The instructions would be rhythmic and simple at first, then could get more complicated. I hear adaptations of marching mnemonics:
Suggestions?
Judith at NJDMJ has that robotics lab. I need a grant.

Initials of my first therapist, Steven Zurrow, nice guy on 72nd Street. Thought I had problems then! What a dick I was. Was like 97-99.
But this is not about therapy of that sort. Seizures are interesting, at least mine are.

ye of little faith
Milton was over today. He said the Yankees suck and poo-pooed the Mets. I never used that expression before -- poo-poo, but that is the sound he made.
fatigue
I am wearing fatigues right now. Actually fatigue shorts. Cammos, as I see them called. Or is that "camos"? Maybe Shaun, my ex-marine buddy, would know. But despite knowing everything, or maybe because of it, he suffers from severe fatigue too. He doesn't really know everything, but he could pretend pretty convincingly.
work
Blogging is work.
I just finished this Atlantic article about (un)employment in the post-recession age. I would link to it but that's too much work. see my blog called fatigue. Same with "What would Google Do" by Jeff Jarvis, which I am reading. Got me started on this blog thing. more later. still mastering the conventions (if any).

time scale disorder
that is how I would describe my condition. Don't get me started on the whole
"time is a 2D plane, not a 1D linear unidirectional vector, stated as (+x, if bigBang=0,0,0)". I will save that for later.
I have time management issues, I know, I have my whole life. But a bigger problem than that socially is what I call "time scale disorder". I am good with anything less than a minute. I can count off seconds like clockwork. I am a trove of time and clock trivia. I am one of the few people who can explain 24fps vs 30fps and fields vs. frames in a way anyone can understand. Life as an animator. But above 5 minutes and I'm lost. Actually I am pretty good until like ten then it's anybody's guess. At WPU we took this diversity class and discussed cultural conceptions of time. I am more like native peoples.

fat people
Remember the Randy Newman song "short people"? I remember reading a short essay, probably in readers digest at my folks, by someone who was pissed they got seated next to a fat person on a plane and ended up having a long chat with the woman which she enjoyed very much. I like to think I am a really tolerant person, so why is it that I can't tolerate the obese? an adulthood of compulsive exercise? It's not just having to sit next to some spreading over my space on public transit. Why, when I see an obese person in a scooter at Target, do I want to say, "If you got out of that thing and walked, you wouldn't be so friggin' fat"?

what would I do?
Reading Javis' book "What would Google Do". Trying to decide how relevant it is to me. more later.
